3rd Annual McCarthy Strong 5K walk, ESA NNE Updates,
and a 3Day Run of Mother's Day Waves .

The 3rd Annual McCarthy Strong 5 K walk in memory of Stephen McCarthy was held on Saturday May 20th, 2017 at the American Legion Hall in Hampton. It's hard to believe we are talking about 3 years since Steve passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. The walk is not only in memory of Steve, but everyone else here on the seacoast that lost loved ones to cancer.

Having been around the McCarthy's for many years, I know of their love and compassion for each other. I watched in amazement, as the siblings (and their spouses) of Stephen, along with his widow and children, put together this amazing fund raiser in short time. The result of their efforts have been astounding. The crowds and donations have grown each year since his passing, and it's obvious this event will go on for quite sometime.

I love the McCarthy family. And anyone who knows them will agree. They are a fun loving group of our Seacoast community, and they return the love we have for them, ten fold. I always feel like part of their enormous clan whenever I am around them. Yeah, I know, I'm not Irish, but I can almost taste the cabbage when I'm with them.

I volunteered my band The Nor'easters to provide the musical entertainment.
I can't tell you how many times Duffy came to one of our shows back in the day. Plus, they had photos of my sister and mother on their collage posters. My brother Johnny and I were touched to see them. So much so, that the band decided to play for nothing. Like I have said many times in the past, we have all been touched by the dreadful disease that is cancer.

The NOR'EASTERS have all been touched by cancer. We all lost loved ones to cancer. Our original bass player (Whitey who lost his first wife to cancer) had to work, so my bass player (Rich) filled in. From left to right: my brother Johnny, me, drummer Lenny, and bassist Rich.

*We will be playing at FLATBREAD this coming Thursday, May 25th, from 7-9 to say Goodbye to Hampton Flatbread as they will CLOSE THE DOORS FOREVER on May 28th, 2017. It is the true End of An Era.

Here's a pic of the crowd before the walk started. The place was mobbed.
It was a wonderful turnout for a wonder beautiful human being.

We are not quite finished. But this 3rd annual 5 K walk was a huge success.
A BIG thank you to all the sponsors and donations. There are many more pics down in the McCarthy Strong Photo gallery.

I posted this last week to announce the first ever video of women surfers of the Northeast. I'll be looking out for the girls in the next few swells. So hit me up ladies when you know where you'll be surfing.

If there are any women from the Northeast that I may not have on my list
of 25 women, please email me to let me know who I should consider. ralph@adlantic.com

Speaking of women. Becca Speak placed First in Women Shortboard at the Northeast ESA Regionals in Bel Mar NJ this weekend. Becca is going to be one of the main surfers in the GRANITE GIRLS movie. We're all stoked for her and the other NNE ESA competitors. *Becca is holding her first place trophy that also happens to be one of my pics. The ESA asked me to submit some empty wave pics, and they chose mine to be first and second place. That kind of blew my mind. Just trying to help out.

THIS JUST IN. Kai Nichols placed 1st in JR Men's Shortboard. 2nd in Jr men's Longboard, and 4th in Open Shortboard. He also got an award for the HIGHEST SCORING Wave of the contest STRAIGHT NINES ACROSS THE BOARD! Stoked for Kai!! And pops (Lenny Nichols) got two second place finishes with missing out on 1st place in the last 32 seconds. He also got highest score in Longboard 8.65!

Congrats to both Nichols boys!

This week's Ed's corner surfer is some Goofy foot that I may or may not know. This was taken in 2013 and it looks like a left at the Wall. Regardless of who it is, it's a great photo. If you know the guy let him know he made the Ed's corner pic this week.

To see more of Ed's pics just scroll through the archives. He has shot so many pics for the blog. Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog. Photo by Ed O'Connell

Now for Some More Of My Weekly Global Observances
It's 45's first overseas visit since becoming president. He's in Saudi Arabia as I write this. It's funny because I remember his anti Muslim rant during his campaign. So, having said that I saw this cartoon and couldn't resist. You have to admit, it's pretty funny.

Look 45 gets some new Bling!

"Is this what the Saudi Rappers wear?"

Well, it appears that LeBron James is truly the KING. And he's seriously bigger than our Little Isaiah. He looks like he could eat Little Isaiah if he wanted to. Please don't eat our Little Isaiah Mr James.

Still gotta hope there's hope for at least one victory.

Here's the 2017 Patriots schedule.

The
last ever show at Hampton's FLATBREAD this coming Thursday. And it's The FIRST and LAST time The NOR'EASTERS will play at Flatbread. You do not want to miss this. The Easters are gonna turn up their amps and BLOW THE ROOF OFF the joint.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
Here's a photo of 45 in Saudi trying to win over the crowd. And would you look at who tried to steal the thunder from from 45? It's Al Qeada's own poster child KSM. Why that little rat.

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Keffiyeh scarves at Home Depot this week.

Prayers and positive thoughts to Erica Nardone's recovery.

Prayers and positive thoughts to surfer Jason Kooken who suffered
a spinal cord injury in New Jersey last month.

CONGRATULATIONS to Brian And Sam Nevins on the birth

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our Little Brylee May 22nd, 2017!

MOTHER'S DAY SWELL May 14-15-16-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. This is the web edit for the 3 Day Mother's Day Swell. It never really got bigger than head high. And it rained the first two days. Still, it was surf, and beggars can't be choosers now can we. I did the edit today after hearing about the death Chris Cornell, lead singer for Soundgarden. He had a great voice. It's ironic because I was looking for the right song to go with this edit. And I believe I found it with Black Hole Sun. The surfers that I can remember are: Kai Nichols, Tom Hay, Andy Elliott, Mikey Moran, Skip Brunette, Erik Zak, Kody Grondin, Chris Stelman, Max Fatello, Mikey Evans, and a handful I couldn't ID. This is for all the mothers. past, present, and future. And it's in memory of Chris Cornell.

The Forgotten Go Pro Footage 2014-2016 Part 1
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This is a series of web edits that was all shot on my old GoPro. How old? Well it's the HERO II. So that's 3 GoPros ago. Did I just write that? I guess I did. Any way, this first edit was shot on the last day of Summer in 2014. The surfers are (that I can remember) : Perry Reynolds, Kai Nichols, Lenny Nichols, Mike Rosa, Zach Bru, Bryan Johnson, Kyle Linesman, Kenny Linseman, and a bunch of others. *You might want to take some Dramamine before watching this. It's all water shots, so no tripods were used. Music is by Trentemoller and Grenier.

The Forgotten GoPro Footage Part II 2014-2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

More of the GoPro footage I had lying around. It's pretty much small wall footage. Though, it is noteworthy a the clips of Kevin Grondin were all shot on his birthday last Jun 23d, 2016. The rest is mostly empty waves with Mackey getting a few. The real cool thing about this web edit is. 50 years ago today, May 12th, 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their debut LP. This song was on that record. And I remember it all like it was yesterday. Funny thing is, the song is as current today as it was 50 years ago. Do check it out.

This is the life story of three-time world champion surfer Andy Irons who died at age 32 from a heart attack with the secondary cause being an acute mixture of drugs. Andy and his brother, Bruce, came from humble beginnings on the small Hawaiian island of Kauai.

Director Todd Jones on the Kickstarter campaign. "We privately financed the film. We do not want any corporate influence in it because we wanted to true story to be our soul focus and did not want any external forces influencing our decision process."

The film chronicles Andy's struggles with dyslexia, bipolar disease, self-medication, addiction, fame, success, and failure. Andy was a blue collar people's champ who dealt with the same issues millions of people around the world struggle with every day. He died on November 2, 2010. His wife was eight months pregnant with their son, Axel, at the time.
